Atlanta Liquor License Renewal Checklist 2026
An Atlanta retail alcohol business receives a local license from the City of Atlanta and a state license from the Georgia Department of Revenue. Georgia’s centralized process connects the applications, but the state and city remain separate licensing authorities with separate fees and issued records.
Georgia renewal season
Georgia DOR says alcohol renewal season begins on the first business day of September and continues through December 31. DOR recommends renewing before November 1 to help ensure the license is issued before January 1.
DOR instructs retail alcohol licensees to renew both the state and local licenses. The retail renewal process can require separate state and local payments and documents requested by the local jurisdiction.
City of Atlanta alcohol license
Atlanta’s Office of Revenue publishes the following city schedule:
- Renewal season begins October 1.
- The alcohol certificate expires December 31.
- The renewal submission is due December 31.
- Renewal payment is due December 31.
Use the city’s current licensing portal and retain the city confirmation separately from the state confirmation.
Occupational-tax certificate
Atlanta publishes a different schedule for its Business Occupational Tax Certificate. The certificate is valid through December 31, but the renewal submission opens January 2 and is due February 15. Payment is due April 1.
This certificate is a separate city record. Do not replace its deadlines with the alcohol-license schedule merely because both records cover the same business.
Internal operating cadence
At the start of September
- Confirm each state and local alcohol license number and premises.
- Gather the state documents and any Atlanta-specific requirements.
- Assign an owner to the state filing, city filing, and each payment.
Before November 1
- Follow DOR’s recommended timing for the state renewal.
- Confirm the local application and fee status.
- Save each submission confirmation.
Before December 31
- Verify that the Atlanta alcohol renewal and payment are complete.
- Verify the state application status and issued license.
- Record the occupational-tax certificate’s separate February and April milestones.
The checklist cadence follows the published agency dates. Any earlier internal checkpoint is an operational recommendation, not a regulator deadline. These statements were checked against the linked Georgia DOR and City of Atlanta sources on September 14, 2026.
